Haircuts for Little Men Giveaway! Woohoo!

Haircuts for Little Men
Last week I posted about my experience with home haircuts--along with a dire warning to attempt at your own risk. I stated that I cut my boys' hair because I can't bear to spend $20 a month on haircuts--not because I'm necessarily wholeheartedly satisfied with my haircutting skills. No indeed.

Well.

Melonie came to my rescue and mentioned a friend, Nancy, who not only cuts her children's hair successfully (and lives to tell about it), but has also written an e-book detailing how-to's!

Well.

Lo and behold, Nancy herself contacted me, and, perceiving my desperate straits, offered her kind assistance. (So, maybe that's a bit dramatic, but it appeals to my need for a good story, OK?)

Well.

Not only did she offer me a copy of her e-book for free, she also offered me one to give away here on my blog to one of my awesome readers!

How neato-mosquito is that?

Her book is entitled Haircuts for Little Men, and it's designed to help us poor, desperate mothers save a buck and still feel confident that we can cut our boys' hair and not leave them scarred for life. (Figuratively or literally!)

Now, I'll be honest. I had just cut my little guys' hair when Nancy offered to do this. So, I haven't actually tried out her techniques and instructions yet. But I have read it and the instructions seem pretty straightforward.

Plus, her website is filled with great reviews--including pics of first time cuts by previously inexperienced haircutting moms. I've seen the pics, and if seeing is believing, I'm pretty darn impressed.

So, if you're interested in attempting haircutting for the first time or improving your skills, here's a chance to win a great how-to book!

There are three ways to enter the giveaway and you can enter up to three times.

1. Leave me a comment here and include your funniest haircut story. Your own haircut gone wrong, or a haircut you did for someone else, or whatever!

2. For a second entry, subscribe to my feed! There will be a secret code in the footer of the post in your feed reader or inbox that won't show up on the site itself. Email the code to me at hearthmanagement (at) gmail (dot) com. Put the quote in the subject line--I won't actually read the email! For those of you who are wondering what it means to subscribe, here's a quick explanation. Please don't comment to let me know--I'll get your email.

3. For a third entry, post about and link to the giveaway post on your own blog. Email me with your link in the subject line. Again, please don't comment to let me know--I'll get your email.

The giveaway will be open until Wednesday, April 22 at midnight. The winner will be announced on Thursday the 23rd and will be notified by email. Please be sure that I have a way of contacting you. (Either a valid email address in your Blogger profile, a link to your website, or your email address included in your comment.)

Enjoy and happy haircutting!

You don't need to enter me in the giveaway since I already have the e-book ;-) but I just wanted to stop by and tell you I'm SO glad my comment was of assistance! I'll blog the giveaway so my readers can come visit you. Isn't Nancy just wonderful??? :-)

When I took Landon for one of his first haircuts, he was so upset and difficult that he ended up with a very uneven cut and even looked rather bald in spots. Poor kid had to wear a hat whenever we went anywhere for quite a while. He still doesn't cooperate for haircuts, but he hasn't had one that bad since then.

Well, I don't *think* the haircuts I've given my 2 have been that horrible...thank goodness Jackson has always had curly hair. It is much more forgiving :)
I remember once in JrHigh I cut my own bangs. Wet hair. You know where this is going, right? They were SO short. and not in a cute pixie-ish way - more in a freaky sticks out and looks crazy way..... ah the good old days - lol!
would love some help with the kids' heads!
:) Erin

Oh, a giveaway for something useful! Hurray! John doesn't have any hair so to speak of by I did trim the two or three babyhairs that stuck up and made him look like a little Who from Whoville. Does that count as a story?

And (thanks to your last haircutting post), I trimmed my daughters bangs myself last Saturday! And I was delightfully surprised to have them come out straight!!! Hurray!!

My husband was in the middle of his Marine Officer training when we got married. He informed my that one of my new duties as his wife would be the weekly haircut. Well. Ok, then. I had never cut anyone's hair before but went at it with cheerful determination. Turns out that first haircut happened to fall right before a big inspection in full dress uniform. His captain made his way down the line of Marines all spit-shined and polished, pausing briefly at each one to do a full once-over. He got to Jimmy, paused, looked him up and down and made one comment, "Your wife cut your hair, didn't she Lt. Kyker?" He got his hair cut at the base barber shop after that, especially right before inspection! : )Ten years later I'm not all that much better, unfortunately. I usually start the boys' hair and he finishes it off! A book would likely be of great use to me.

Two days before my husband's cousin's wedding, I decided to trim my bangs. (Do you see where this is going?) I'd let them go for too long, so I figured that I had to trim about an inch. By the time I'd trimmed and re-trimmed to make the hair even, I'd cut off way too much. Unfortunately, everyone in the family has the pictures to prove it!

I also give haircuts to my husband and my son, so I can definitely use some help!

Thankfully I haven't had any funny/embarrassing stories with cutting my husband's hair. I had a great teacher (his mom) help me figure that one out. But I recently gave my son his first real hair cut and it did not turn out the way it was supposed to. He got a couple of comments that it looked like I put a bowl over his head and cut around it! Yikes!

I really need this book, I have 3 boys, and only the youngest one will even let me touch his hair. I have tried unsuccessfully to trim it, and cut a little too much off the back. Thank goodness he can't see the back.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Hey Briana,
I just love your blog. I check it pretty much everyday. I also enjoy the links to all of the other great blogger sites. What an encouragement you all are!
Anyway, I surely have experienced the "haircut gone horribly wrong" phenominon. As a mother trying to save some money, I decided it would make lots of sense to cut my son's hair. After all my older sister cut her husbands hair and it always looked fine. Well, when Matthew was about 3 years old (he is now almost 6), I found a pair of clippers at a discount store. I bought them on the spot thinking I had found the ticket to a well-groomed looking boy and financial freedom (at least when it comes to haircuts). Well, thank goodness my sister was home to do his first couple of haircuts. He looked pretty good, although his hair was a little short. He never liked getting haircuts(scream, wiggle, and cry)so we chose the easiest, fastest way to cut it- just shave it off. I thought this was working pretty well until I had to give it a go- at home and alone. It was much harder than it looked. It took me forever to end up with a crazy, choppy looking do. My husband had to help repair the damages when he got home from work. My son and I both could have used a good sedative after that nightmarish experience. Subsequent cuttings were not much better athough I did learn a little about technique- very little. So little in fact I scratched up his neck trying to shave it with improper shaving device. I had no idea that my clipper blade was not fine enough to shave the neck. Lesson learned the hard way. Oh, poor, poor Matthew!
Anyway, I recently caved in and took him to the barber before school. When I took to school the whole class commented "Oh, Matthew looks so good. He got a haircut." Keep in mind these are 4 and 5 year olds.
So, I would love to try cutting his hair again, but I defininitly need help.
I don't have a blog site but my email is cynthiamickler@gmail.com

i finally took my two older kids to the salon after a couple years of home-done hair cuts (they are 2 & 3). the last time i tried to cut the two-year olds hair, i could get him to sit still for anything! i had run out of ideas and only had half his head done. so, i thought a popsicle might do the trick. it worked great to keep his attention... however, i spent the rest of the hair cut trying to figure out how to keep the hair off the popsicle! yuck!!

What a fabulous giveaway! I have two boys, and usually go for the buzz cut because I don't have the skills to do anything else! :) Funniest haircut story is the first time we did a home haircut on my oldest, the day before the Baptism service for my youngest. Put the wrong guard on the clippers, and in a matter of seconds, he went from needing a haircut to needing hair! Once you've done the first swipe with the clippers, you are committed. I've learned the clippers guards, but could definitely benefit from the book. I don't have a blog, but you can reach me via email kkhill (at) swbell (dot) net.

I love it. I'm always giving my 3 boys a buzz cut because I feel like I can't go wrong with that. My sons laugh at me when I always struggle trying to figure out how to get the no. 4 attachment on. I can't seem to remember from the last time I gave them a buzz.

Thanks for the giveaway. bnhmagness@yahoo.com

When I was in eighth grade I gave myself a haircut. I started a bit too high on one side, and cut all the way around...it ended up severely lopsided. I refused to let anyone fix it and just let it grow out. rofl

I cut my husbands hair and when his brother found out he wanted a freebie too so I gave it a try a couple nights ago, but I kept on getting nervous so the hubby took over. I am sure the book would help on many levels. My son will be getting his FIRST hair cut soon and I will be doing it. I COULD REALLY USE THIS!

My haircut horror story -- my daughter did NOT like to get her hair cut when she was little, and so we strapped her in the highchair to cut her bangs (she looked like Cousin It they were so long) so she couldn't get out. Just as I was cutting she jerked her head violently and they were extremely crooked and she looked horrible for several weeks! I never cut her hair again!
